Application summary The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is accepting proposals for collaborative research projects under the framework of AJ-CORE (Africa-Japan Collaborative Research) in the field of "Environmental Science". AJ-CORE is a new multilateral research framework connecting three (or more) countries: Japan, South Africa, and at least one SGCI member African country.
Application targets Any independent researcher personally affiliated with and actively conducting research at a domestic Japanese research institution (or who will fulfill this requirement by the start of the research project), regardless of nationality, is eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator. Japan-based researchers from industry are eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator in the joint research project in the Japan-based team.

Messages (1) Submission to JST and the NRF in parallel The Japan-based and the NRF-based applicants shall write a common application that shall be handed in both to JST and the NRF respectively in parallel. For the Japan-based applicants, in addition to the common application, Japanese abstruct applications should be submitted to JST. Unless submission to both JST and the NRF side are completed, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding. (2) Complession of Research Ethics Training Program Japan-based applicants are required to complete a research ethics training program conducted by the research institute with which they are affiliated and then declare the completion of the program to JST via e-Rad by the proposal submission deadline of the call for proposals. If it is difficult for them to undertake a program provided by their own institute, they should contact JST to register for a research ethics program provided by Association for the Promotion of Research Integrity, APRIN before submission of their applications. Unless applicants complete a research ethics program, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding.
