Details

Application summary The JST and the NSF have established a funding initiative to support bilateral research collaboration between the two countries in the field of "Resilience Research for Human-Centered Data in line with related items of the SDGs and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction". JST is seeking applications from Japan-based researchers with collaborations with US-based researchers. As direct cost, funding of up to 7.69 million Japanese Yen to each Japan-based research team is available per project, for a duration of approximately 13 month. The overhead cost of 30% of direct cost will be added separately.
Application targets Any independent researcher personally affiliated with and actively conducting research at a domestic Japanese research institution (or who will fulfill this requirement by the start of the research project), regardless of nationality, is eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator. Japan-based researchers from industry are eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator in the joint research project in the Japan-based team.

Messages (1) Eligibility of US-based reserachers Japan-based researchers applying to this call should reach out to potential US-based partners who are already receiving research funding by NSF or have applied for research funding from NSF, and expect to receive a result prior to the end of October 2021. If the US-based partner research does not receive funding from NSF, the application will not be eligible for funding in this call. (2) Completion of Research Ethics Training Program Japan-based applicants are required to complete a research ethics training program conducted by the research institute with which they are affiliated and then declare the completion of the program to JST via e-Rad by the proposal submission deadline of the call for proposals. If it is difficult for them to undertake a program provided by their own institute, they should contact JST to register for a research ethics program provided by Association for the Promotion of Research Integrity, APRIN before submission of their applications. Unless applicants complete a research ethics program, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding.
